Most people are not even aware of their need to conform.

Since there is still a need to feel some individuality,

to the Elks instead of to the Shriners become the expression of individual differences.

シュライナーのかわりにエルクスに属することは個人的な差異の現われとされる。

The advertising slogan of "it is different" shows up this pathetic need for difference, when in reality there is hardly any left.

現実においてはほとんどなんの差異も残っていない時に，《それは違っている》というスローガンが掲げられるのは，差異を求めるこの悲痛な要求を暴露しているのである。
