Having spoken of the love of God,

神の愛について私は語ってきたが，

I want to make it clear that I myself do not think in terms of a theistic concept,

and that to me the concept of God is only a historically conditioned one,

in which man has expressed his experience of his higher powers, his longing for truth and for unity at a given historical period.

その神概念は，歴史的に条件づけられたものとしてみれば，与えられたその歴史のある時期においての，人間のより高い力についての経験，真実と合一とへの熱望を表わしているものであるにすぎないという考えである。

But I believe also that the consequences of strict monotheism and a non-theistic ultimate concern with the spiritual reality

しかし，私はまた，厳密な一神論の結論と精神的実在への非有神論的な究極の関心とは，

are two views which, though different, need not fight each other.

互いに異なりはするけれども，互いに闘う必要はないふたつの見解であると信じている。
